He's looking for:
- something without a touch screen interface
- preferable card based, but drive based is ok (no tape)
- decent low light since I'm sure most of his shooting will be inside for the first year or so

I've found some decent deals on refurbs on Canon's site all for under $600. (from highest to lowest)
HF11 ($50 over budget)
HG20
HF100
HG10
FS11
FS100

If it was your $600, what would you get?

Hi to the forum. This is my first post. I live in Australia. I would like to make a travel log of a fast up coming trip to Southern India.
I have had little video making experience, a couple of home movies and a lot of footage of holidays shot on an early sonyDVCAM Pd1p. It broke down last year whilst motorcyling in the Indian Himalayas. I only have stills of the best part of that trip. :( I have gone solid state. :)
I want to get a wide angle lens for my hfs10. I had an AMBICO wide and Tele converter set so tried it with an adapter ring 58 to 52. the result was a ring around the picture at wide open. The question I have is weather a canon WC-DC58A .7x lens screwed on will fit and focus?
any helpful advise is very welcome.
Regards ED

Appropriate for covert shooting?

I am a documentary filmmaker and shoot primarily with Panasonic cameras (HPX500 and HVX200a)... I have contracted to make a film which will require some covert shooting and I need a camera (actually two or three cameras) that looks like a consumer camera but shoots images that will be included in a longer film shot with the Panasonics...

I have read all the reviews and specs of the small Canons and am a little unsure which to get... I don't have a problem with HDV (I used to have an XL H1, which I really liked) but since I've gotten used to working tapeless it wouldn't bother me to work with flash media either.

24p is important, but it doesn't have to intercut directly with the other cameras...

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hey folks.. I'm new here, and new to video. Had a kid recently, so of course I had to go out and buy a videocam, settled on the HF S100. So far I like it, though I have a LOT to learn about shooting/editing video (have been an avid photographer for several years). Right now I'm using the dummy mode, but hope to start playing with the more manual features soon.

My biggest issue at the moment is sound. I'm noticing that the camera-person is always loud when speaking, but anyone in front of the camera is barely audible. I assume the best case fix for this is an external mic? I'm on a budget after buying this cam and just ordering a Raynox HD 6600. Should I mess with the gain?

Bear with me.. I'll do my best searching through the forums before asking.. :)

Thanks,

Hi there,

I've been using the HF-S100 for my work, which is video for the Web and mobile devices, and (decoding aside) have been happy with the HF-S100.

I'm filming some travel videos that will ultimately be delivered onto iPhone and Android phones, but would like to film in HD just in case for future use. I am not doing any audio, but expect to use some stills so I ended up picking up a Canon 7d thinking that I could use one device for the video footage and pictures. I figure that I'll be in some darker locations so the low-light capability of the 7d would be nice as well.

The 7d has been great for pictures, but I haven't really enjoyed the form factor or lack of control/feedback/auto focus, etc.

I need to travel light so I would rather only take one of the cameras.

Do I just need to get used to dealing with the limitations of the 7d? What would you take? Do I need to suck it up and lug both around?

Thanks, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

2. How do I avoid this in the future? I tried many different modes, nothing seemed to fix it.
What setting would you guys use to fix the foreground?
