I am very new to the process of video editing and am struggling through learning to use my tools. I use WAX2.0. I have a rather old camcorder, the Sony DCR-TRV720 NTSC. In the past I have used Movie Maker to pull the video off my camcorder and then to do my editing. It seemed to work well, but I am also trying to do chroma key work and I find that Movie Maker does not offer a lot of control for that process. I see that WAX2.0 seems to have a fair amount of control for Chroma Key so I loaded it up. Unfortunately it looks as though WAX does not have the ability to interface with my camcorder and allow me to pull the video off. I used Movie Maker to pull the video off then opened the file into WAX, but it seems that I only get the video into WAX and no audio. If I play the same clip using Movie Maker I get the audio, so I know the clip contains audio, and I know my PC is working properly.

Now, when I import using Movie Maker, I choose the AVI NTSC format. It's the only AVI format I see as an option in Movie Maker. Then I tried to import into the WMV format. WAX cannot accept that format so I found a WMV to AVI converter. I used it to convert to AVI (this time it does not seem to say anything about NTSC) and when I import that file into WAX, it comes along with the audio track. If this worked right I would be happy, but then I found that when I render the clip after editing, the audio is out of synch with the video. Am I in too deep for my level of experience, or am I missing something simple? Are there multiple types of AVI? Is the type of AVI that I am using not seperating the audi from the video so that WAX can properly import it? Is WAX not that great of a tool? Is there something else I should be using? I know, lots of questions. Any help for this newb would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

After having gotten into video productions 3-4 years ago, I find myself looking at life differently. PLEASE, someone tell me I'm not the only one. See the 3 paragraphs below as examples:

ONE: I can be out on a romantic evening at the beach with my wife looking at the sunset, and she'll be thinking about how lovely everything is and how much she loves me (I think she thinks that), and I'm thinking about what settings I'd use on my camera to capture the moment. What's worse, I even find myself having to "adjust" our seating arrangements so I can frame the imagery shot better.

TWO: I drive by a gas station with bright neon lights and other colorful things and wonder how that would look as a background setup as a shallow DOF image for a closeup interview shot at night.

THREE: As I turn off my lights and close my eyes at night to go to bed, (maybe this is just me), but I "see" a lot of fuzzy, sparkly stars as my eyes are adjusting to the new darkness. The very first reaction I have is that I need to turn down the ISO to get rid of all this "noise."

Please don't tell me I'm the only one. My family already thinks I'm crazy. (Sorry this is a bit off the more serious topics, but I have been thinking about this for a while wondering if I'm crazy or if this is normal in the industry).

Hi:
My archives are full of Betacam- and DVCAM-stuff shot in 4:3-mode. But nowadays all tv-station demand 16:9. In order to use some old footage, here comes a question: Is there a way to transfer 4:3 to 16:9 in best quality? I work with Final Cut Pro.
Thanx: Heiner

In movies like My blueberry night and 2046 there is used some kind of slow motion style in some frames that look very snatchy or abrupt. Just like slow shutter effect. How is this done?

Thank you
