Wow, this is a disturbing one.

As I said in another thread, I recently reformatted my drive, put all my files back on it and upgraded from Vegas 7 to Vegas 9.

So far, everything's been pretty good. All my video files were preserved on backup. I've opened all of my important .VEG files, and had good luck rendering out AVIs and MPEGs using all the .veg files created in Vegas 7 and hdv ingested with 7.

HOWEVER, there is one patch of video, literally 4 minutes within a larger chunk of HDV, that Vegas 9 will NOT recognize. Onscreen it shows half an image, with the bottom half a big GREEN blank. A big chunk of sound in that section is also missing.

First I thought, "Okay, this file just must have gotten corrupted in the backup and restore process. I'll just re-ingest from the exact same in and out points on the original HDV tape, and then use the Replace function to sub the new footage in on all the timelines."

So I re-ingest it, and as it comes it it looks and sounds PERFECT. Except that when I look at the new file that's been created, nearly the SAME problem occurs -- I get some moving image, except it WILL NOT give me any sound for that 3 - 4 minutes.

Now bear in mind, I have literally over 50 hours of ingested footage on my HDDs, and all of it seems to be working fine, in and out of Vegas 9.

WHY would this one particular chunk of tape (which plays back perfectly fine on the camera and during capture) NOT be recognized by Vegas 9?

Any advice to fix this, or a workaround?

Thanks much for any help, this is driving me nuts.

Now that I've cleaned up my wacky rendering problem, I'm ready to put my project to DVD. But I need to figure out a few things about DVD Architect first.

1) I want the ability to have optional subtitles (similar to "closed captioning"), but I was reading in another thread that if you make a subtitles file, then DVDA has to create a second set of .VOBs with the subtitles on them. What? I thought subtitles were generated on the fly by the DVD player itself from the .txt file. My main video is 5.1 GB (I'm burning to DVD-9) so if this is the case then I can't subtitle it. Surely that can't be right, is it?

2) I recently formatted my HDD and did fresh installs of Vegas 9 and DVDA 5.0. Now it seems that Vegas won't render out AC3 Pro (and won't give me the ability to build AC3 files with more than 192kb). It says I need to "unlock the plugin". But surely that should have been done when I installed and registered DVDA, right? Any ideas?

3) Since I'm going to be burning to a dual-layer disk, am I able to manually set the point where the DVD "shifts" to the second layer? I know most DVD players have a ~1 second pause when this shift happens, and I'd like to be able to make that happen at a point when the screen is faded to black in the movie, or at least at a point when there's not much happening onscreen.

Thanks in advance for all help.
I was just sitting here thinking of how I can incorporate score board graphics into my sports events...and I suppose the only way to do this is watch the whole game in the edit bay and switch the score manually as people score. With Basketball, this would be every minute or so....I suppose I could capture live into my editor and do a live edit to save time in the edit bay on this....just thinking out loud here...If anyone has any thoughts on this please join in....does any one here capture live events and edit that with graphics online so to speak? I have yet to do this with Vegas and even wonder if you can....I do have that new Adobe On location software also, but thinks this is not a true editing suite, just for capturing.

I just returned from a week in Iowa, where I attended my cousin's wedding.

I have a Canon HG10 which shoots AVCHD video footage. Three days before the wedding I received an email from my cousin asking me to film the wedding...after making sure she knew this wasn't going to be anything professional, I agreed to film it.

At the last minute, a buddy of mine also decided he wanted to film the wedding with his Canon GL2. I got permission and we shot the wedding. I stayed in the back with a tripod, for a sort of anchor shot, while buddy roamed the sanctuary getting various handheld "b roll" type shots.

Since this entire thing was so last minute, we didn't really know what we were doing. We kept both cameras rolling through the entire service for continuity of audio, we put a Rode Videomic on the GL2 which was out in the sanctuary and seemed to have better, clearer sound.

Anyway, to the heart of the question, now I have the wedding files on my hard drive in the following formats:

Code:

Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 2.778

I think mediainfo is reading my AVCHD resolution incorrectly as HDV res.

Anyway, since they're both different formats, how do I make them play nice in Vegas Pro? Can I just drop them in and start working with them as multiple camera angles even though one is DV and the other AVCHD? Or do I need to use something like cineform to transcode them both to compatible formats?

What a mess I have on my hands! I agreed to shoot the wedding as a learning experience for myself, the alternative was that the family was gonna set a camera in the back of the church and turn it on, and go sit back down. I'm not trying to be anything remotely close to a professional, and I realize having one track 16:9 and one 4:3 could be problematic, but there are some really good shots from each camera and so i'd like to cut between them, perhaps adding the blurred pillarboxes to the 4:3, like they do on the news, where it has a gaussian blur of whatever is near the image edges to fill out the 16:9 screen without stretching.

But first I need to figure out what I'm doing with the format. I can play with the rest later.

Tips/Ideas? I'll be doing my due diligence searching and reading, but I don't even know where to start at the moment.

OK, I have my Blu-ray project all done and outputted to disc and it looks great. DVDA worked beautifully for what I wanted, but I have another problem I can't seem to figure out. All the clips that comprised my BD project (64 of them) have been rendered to SD widescreen format to a different folder. I want to use my same DVDA project so I don't have to recreate the entire multipage menu structure from scratch. I have resaved the original DVDA project with a different name and correct DVD properties so I don't mess up my original BD project. How can I now change the video files each object on the menu pages points to so that it now points to the SD file (same name as the original, but different extension)? I can't seem to find a way to do this without deleting each object individually and reinserting the new media file on the menu page and then going back and recreating the playlists. This is basically starting from scratch, almost, and with a project of this size would be very tedious. Any ideas how to do this? Thanks.

Hello all!

So I'm dipping my toes into the blu-ray pool and authoring my first discs of a particular nature.

I have a project that has the following credentials:

Length: 7hrs 20mins
Format: HDV / m2t
Rendering out to: MPEG2 (H.264 will probably take years?)
NLE: Vegas 9 (of course)
DVD/BDR Author App: DVD Architect Pro 5

Now the million dollar question(s) are:

What is the best way to go about putting the above project onto blu-ray?
How many discs (25GB or 50GB) can I expect to use?
What would be the best bit-rate settings for the project to ensure a decent image?

Basically I am trying to determine the best workflow for the above project. I don't really want the film to cover more than 2 x 50GB blu-ray disc and if I can get it to fit on one 50GB disc then even better!! But of course I want to maintain a decent image quality

I am hoping somebody can aid me in this process so I don't end up pulling all my hair out!!

Many thanks in advance and I'm sorry if this has been covered before or if I've missed out vital details, but am here to respond :o)

I ask as I tried installing the 32bit tonight and while it seems to run I've had it blow up on me a couple times for no reason...

Also the main reason I tried to install the 32 bit was so that I could run the Debugmode Frameserver - which while it shows up as a render option now in the 32 bit version I keep getting a message that no template exists and it won't let the frame server start...

Thanks for any advice!
