Hello,

I am really trying to find a place for 24p in my shooting so I am taking a lot of notice of TV shows, motion and jitter/stobing.

This show CSI NY seems to be shot on film. The images are gorgeous, but when they pan (and often pretty quickly without subject motion) I don't see much slow framerate jitter or strobing.

Do the networks have an upper level way of putting 24p on a 60Hz broadcast that reduces the motion jitter?

Or do they shoot this type of show at a higher framerate?

All I know is that when I have tested 24p for my uses, camera movement or panning looks horrible unless it is very slow. Just wondering if they have some tricks up their sleeves.

Thanks for your input.

I am going to be renting a Sony HVR-V1U (which I have never used before) to shoot with and then will be editing this footage on my mac. I guess my questions are will I be able to do this? will editing from my lacie drive over firewire 800 work? anything else I need to know? thanks for your help

I asked a question a while ago about changing 1080i to 1080p of which I found out that I'll lose half my resolution. If I filmed at 1080i but rendered as 720p would I retain full resolution? Also - What are the advantages of actually filming 1080p instead of filming 1080i and rendering as 720p?

I ask this, as i'm looking to buy a new camera, and am torn between the V1, Z1 or Z5... I'm leaning towards the Z5, as it has all the features as the others, but does have the 1/3" chips rather than the 1/4" ones in the V1 and does have progressive. But i'd like to find out more about progressive before spending a lot of money!

I look forward to your feedback!
Since today, I've used Adobe Premiere CS4 to edit my videos and I will still use it on my new Mac. I have a Sony FX1 and on my PC I've always used HDVSplit to import videos and split them automatically. I've read that for Mac there's HDVxDV. I only would like to know if this software does all the the things of HDVSplit: importing in a m2t file (or other) ready for Premiere and have my videos automatically splitted when the scene changes. Thank you so much for your answers. Bye.

I know this is chomping at the bit, but there always seems to be some info tid bits floating around. I really like the look of the HMC 150, but is Sony going to be coming out with a direct (budgetary) competitor to it. Will JVC be adding any models? Will panasonic be expanding their AVCCAM line? Will Sony stay with SXS cards or will it make smaller 1/3 chip size cams using sdhc or compactflash? I realize these questions may not have specific answers yet, but any info would be appreciated. I really do prefer getting my answers here in the forum than from someone trying to make a sale. Thanks.

The problem with choosing a camera, trading in from my DVX100B, is that there are no clear and precise winner. All have pros and cons, and not one seem to stand out from the crowd more then the others.... well to my eyes at least... that is in the sub $10,000 range (or close to). Of course, an HPX3000 would suite me fine.... if I had the means! But reality dictates the inevitable road to compromise.

I have my sights on the popular models, such as the EX1 (now EX1R), EX3, HPX170 (even the HMC150), the HPX300 (probably the HPX500 too), and the HM700. All fine cameras in there own rights. Some have better ergonomics, some have better resolution, other have better chroma, better codecs, lower cost media, workflow ease... yadi yada, and the list continues on and on. I've compared the specs, made lists, tested each of them (except the hpx300). I just can't get a fix on one! HPX for 4:2:2, truer film look and richness; the HM700 for ergonomics, low cost media and easy fcp workflow, EX for full raster, 1/2" sensors and arguably less noisy.

I'm really getting a headache! And I really need a third eye on this... some point of view that is more objective then mine. My uses are varied.. it's anything from corporate, event and news, to shorts and docs. But rarely long form... in which case I end up renting anyway.
