I had 6 tapes of material captured using HDLink under AspectHD. Before I could edit the project I upgraded to Prospect HD and decided to recapture everything again.

One of the tapes seems to have been damaged so I am now editing 5 tapes captured under ProspectHD and 1 tape captured under AspectHD (HDLink for all). But the material from the AspectHD capture comes out jittery -- not like you'd get with incorrect interlacing -- just jumpy. All the material was 30p from a Canon A1.

Do I need to set some sort of parameter to get the AspectHD captured tape to work with the new ProspectHD?

By the way, when I play the original captured video (prior to editing with ProspectHD), there is no jitter.

I'm experiencing some issues with some clips being out of sync. It's not a performance issue during playback though, since it occurs also when I export to a new file for playback on a different machine or DVD player.

Perhaps it was a performance issue during the HDLink conversion process? (I didn't automatically convert on the fly, I'm pretty sure I captured to M2T first)

The material was shot with an HVR-V1U at 24p (extracted from 60i w/ HDLink)
Originally I may have been on CS3 and Aspect HD. Now I am on CS4 w/ Prospect HD.

I find with my problem clips, I typically have to advance the audio by 3 frames. Any ideas at what stage this could have come about? And just to ensure I am precise with syncing it back up. Should I re-capture? I'm concerned that I wouldn't be able to re-capture it precisely to maintain the correct edit points, but.... I haven't looked at Premiere Pro yet, so I'm not sure how easy it is. Or how it is from a 3rd party plugin perspective.

When exporting a SD timeline in Premiere to an AVI, if I use the CineForm AVI selection in Media Encoder and use the YUV encoding format, The color space defaults to Rec. 709 and there is a slight color shift in the resulting AVI. I don't see any way of changing this when exporting SD (Rec. 601) files.
Now if I use the Microsoft AVI selection, and then choose CineForm as the codec, I can use the codec settings to uncheck the Rec. 709 encode/decode. The resulting file is correct.
I guess my question is, should I be using the second procedure for creating CineForm AVI files? Is there a reason to use the CineForm AVI selection over Microsoft AVI? Will the quality be the same?
BTW, if I use the CineForm AVI/RGB 4:4:4 selection, the resulting file color is correct (I assume that there is no color transcode going on), so is that the way to go?
thanks,

Ya know what would be cool for first light....a colorciter style hardware interface....
Contour Design | Shuttle | retail.contourdesign.com

this could be a great little hardware interface...but the limitation right now is it works with keyboard shortcuts

if first light could have keyboard shortcts to
1. move focus from one slider to the next (ideally within a group)
2. for up and down in value
3.and if possible to make it really slick key bindings to move focus for groups

basically then we could use the five buttons on the shuttle pro to move focus between groups(gain, gamma, ect) the big wheel for moving the focus( between r,g,b and master ) and the little wheel to adjust values.

alot of people have been hoping for simple trackball style interfaces using existing standard hardware for many application...but they always fall short in functionality

Getting a lot of support reports of incorrect color playback under CS3 / Windows 7 using Prospect. So this weekend I installed exactly that on my home clean install of Win 7 x64 system. It works with only one minor issue -- holes in the timeline play red not black (fixable I think -- but easy to work around as scrubs and renders exports correctly.)

I expect most of the reminding issues others are having are security related. I installed Prospect 4.1 using "Run as Administrator" that may address some of the issues reported. I run admin level user account (default) and with the paranoia level set to second from the bottom (UAC notifications.)

Could please report back your own experiences and setups with Prospect under Window 7. At first I feared CS3+Win7+PHD weren't going to mix, but clearly they do with the correct installation and settings.

I've spent over 20 hours researching and trying to export different ways and burning clips for testing. So far I got nothing and I'm ready to drop it all and call it quits but I cant I got clients waiting! (very frustrating)

I use adobe premiere cs4 and I know many have had this issue with cs4.

Things I've tried:
-Dan Iasaac's method... really confusing and can't wrap my brain around it. If someone had success with this method I'd appriciate it if you can help guide me through it.

-Exporting to different formats... (once burned to DVD)
mpeg2-dvd: bad quailty
mpeg: bad quailty
h.264 : horizontal lines appear (but with the progressive setting give me an error)
numerous formats/options: error during export

-Tried the dynamic link method... fails to export in encore.

-Tried exporting mpeg2-dvd with "maximum render quality" but for some reason it will not let me choose that option, and I heard the exported file sizes are huge anyway!

I think my next wedding video I will have to down-convert to DV before editing. We started shooting in HD but I see now it might not have been a good idea (most people dont have bluray yet)

Again thanks for your time,
David

I get a 1440x1080 4:3 file with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.333 (the image is stretched)

It doesn't seem to make a difference if I scale the image to 1440:1080 from 1920:1440 or simply window that size. In both cases when I create a 1440:1080 file the pixel aspect ratio is 1.33. I've tried both with and without the -P switch.

My final goal is to be able to window two scaled 4:3 1440x1080 files from a larger 4096x2048 file.

Is this simple arithmetic failure on my part again or am I missing something even more basic?

That being said, I've been waiting for Cineform (or 3rd party) to come out with a better capture tool - one similar to the P2 Import on FCP.

I use HD Link and capture/convert ALL my data, but I feel it's a bit of a waste of time and HDD space, when, if I could look at my takes, trim my clips and dig only what I want, I'd be a happier guy.

I was told YEARS ago that Cineform would be coming out with a better dig tool, but it doesn't seem to be happening. Now GlueTools has something cool for FCP (on it's way) to gather footage from 5DM2 sources and convert to ProRes.
I don't want ProRes.

Will Cineform be competing with this kind of capture tool?
