FCX and new Retina Macbook Pro with Firewire camera's ?

if some one can help me with this .. i am buying the new macbook pro (retina) with no fire wire port in it . i got a Canon XH-A1s which has fire wire port for video capture (video out) ... how can i capture video from XHA1s (or similar fire wire camera) with new macbook pro and FCX ? thanks

You will need to wait for the Apple Thunderbolt to firewire 800 adapter due next month. Then use a 400-800 cable and it will work.

Or, if you can't wait, buy a Sonnet Echo adapter (Thunderbolt to Expresscard slot 34) and then buy a Sonnet firewire/expresscard 34 adapter-card. Will probably be a lot more expensive, but I don't know what your schedule is.

Thunderbolt will be faster to storage, but don't forget there are a lot of cheap USB3 adapters to Firewire out there. Grab one for $30 and you should be good to go. Better yet, get a drive that can piggy back your camera since you will probably be dumping footage to an external drive instead of your laptop anyways.
