Soooo, today I looked at my files on my iMac because I got that dreaded, running out of space error. I have a terabyte drive and my 'Macintosh HD's projects and events' is over 597 gb, which of course is over half my drive. Any ideas for addressing my bloatedness?

Try deleting render files for events and projects. Are you using managed media or is your media on an external drive. Not sure why you get running out of space when only half your drive is used,

Hi Jonathan,

I apologize, I meant the library is over half my drive, I think I have to break up my library since all my events are in the same library.

I'm assuming that I can create a new library on an external drive, copy my event/project to that library and delete the old on and it'll free up space on the massive library I have?

There is no reason to have one library in FCPX anymore. It took me a little while to figure this out after the update that introduced libraries but it's worth breaking up unrelated events and their projects into new libraries. Especially onto external drives in the situation you are experiencing. Once you make a new library and use the move command to transfer the event and project files you want associated together into it, that library will contain everything associated with that event (as long you had imported all your media into the event, external media files will have to be transferred directly with the finder and reconnected in FCPX). The resulting library file can be transferred to as many different drives as you want from the finder. It makes managing client files much easier and taking projects on the road a cinch.

Thanks William, I'm so paranoid about deleting something non-recoverable. I'm going to try and break this 600gig down a bit today. Thanks again everyone.
