Re: New version of FCPX - 10.4

The new color correction stuff looks nice, but no mention of whether it can be keyframed, so I'm guessing it can't. Don't really see anything else in the update that would benefit me.

Apparently it won't be available until the end of the year. It's interesting that they continue to roll out free updates of FCPX unlike LogicX that was a paid upgrade a few years ago (about 6 months after I bought Logic 9. of course!).

I found a picture on this link:

which is making me VERY optimistic that keyframing will be added to FCP 10.4. Click the pic in that link to enlarge it and you'll see what I mean.

Re: New version of FCPX - 10.4

Tim - Hey, thanks for the heads up and the link. Spent a lot of time following other leads and reading tweets that answered numerous questions.

A new iMac Pro, a new Mac Pro ....

Lots of interesting new stuff ... and here I's sitting pretty much still doing FHD! I have used a VR setup and talk about immersion ... it's impressive. Doing video with it .... hard to imagine how that would work. What would it be practical for, operations using robotics? Welding?

Anyway, very interesting information there and it's all about where the future is headed.

Color: For me that is a tough area. I try to follow the steps but it's still hard. Sometimes I just have to wing-it. If these color wheels would help that'd be great but just need some good tutorials.

Re: New version of FCPX - 10.4

Hi John

I found some really good tutorials from https://colorgradingcentral.com . Denver Riddle has some good and detailed videos on his youtube channel. They are done with real movie footage. I have been going through a lot of tutorials on it recently, both his and others, and learnt a lot.

I shot the sermon at church this morning. Having done all these tutorials I was much more aware of how much can be achieved with getting it right in camera first, too. I use two cameras from the same location with one on a medium shot and the other a closeup. I made sure I framed both cameras on the exact same section of the scene and then did the colour temperature by manual setting on both. This made post so much easier. The shoot is inside under tungsten (only one with a gel) and window light from the rear side on the right to complicate matters.

Editing was so much easier with the care taken at the start. I was able to get a result with which I was much more pleased, with a minimum of colour grading.

By the way, I shoot with two old Canon HF200's (8 years old) so HD is all I have too, but getting the colour right makes it look so much better.

Re: New version of FCPX - 10.4

Tim -
Thanks for the link and the encouragement. I'm on the road until the end of the week but when I get back I'll check it out.

Wonder how those color wheels will help? Looks intimidating.

And for what it's worth, I really like Multicam.
Thanks again for the info.
