Backup Software
I'm sure I've asked this before but I still haven't solved this problem.
We usually have three to four HD projects concurrently going on three FCP systems totaling about 6TB's. We rent a DVCProHD or HDCam deck for I/O so when projects are completed we back up and keep the data on inexpensive 1TB FW800 drives. Is there software available to automate [as much as practicable] backing up data at the folder level that will continually back up only whats changed? I have SuperDuper which is great for cloning a boot disk but doesn't help manage data at the folder level. I was also holding out hope that FCP server might alleviate this problem but it doesn't appear to be available [and I'm not sure I want to be the first on the block to try it]. So any advice would be great appreciated. |
Use the Backup program in the applications folder. Don't select any of the first back up plans it displays. Just hit continue and it will let you define your own custom back plans as to what files, where to, and when.

where is the backup program ?
i'm having a similar problem |
I also posted this thread in DVXUser and Noiz2 was kind enough to point me in this direction: http://www.econtechnologies.com/site..._overview.html
I downloaded and read the manual and like how this application manages back ups. I think its a bit more how an edit might think about managing data rather than an IT guy. The other great news is that it's inexpensive. If anyone tries it please let us all know how it goes. |
Maybe Greg meant the application "Backup" which is part of .Mac. I see it on my iDisk in the "Software/Apple Software" folder (not in the "Software/Members Only" folder), so you might be able to get it by opening a .Mac trial account.
