Mac Pro RAM upgrade
So, I just won a gift card from Best Buy and (thank the lawd) they sell Apple stuff.
I'm buying a Mac Pro and some extra RAM (the only one they offer is this configuration - 1GB of RAM, yuck). Would buying two of these work? They seem to have the same specs as the Mac Pro ram. Also, I might be selling gift cards for 90 cents on the dollar. PM me if you're interested :) |
I recommend getting the mac pro but get some crucial ram instead. That ram should work. http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820148046

Yeah, I really wish I could get some crucial ram -- that 4GB package is a great deal.
However, I have to buy it from Best Buy :-\ |
I see that Best Buy also sells Kingston. Try to get them ordering:
Kingston KTA-MP667AK2/2G This is a 2GB DIMM or Kingston KTA-MP667AK2/4G This is a 4GB DIMM I'm also looking around to buy a Mac Pro, and there are several persons who told me that this is the memory that Apple uses in their Mac Pro. |
Other world computing has Mac pro 4gb kits for under 240.00
thats 4 1 gb sticks for 239.00 |
I'd be careful buying ram. The Mac Pros come in different flavors, dual and quad core, and require RAM with particular thermal ratings, if memory serves me correctly. Also, it's best to buy RAM that is "Apple Certified" to avoid any warrant issues.
Other World Computing and Crucial are well-respected purveyors of Mac Ram. You won't go wrong with them. Best Buy....not so sure! |

I would agree with the crucial recommendations, I upgraded a friends MacBook Pro with crucial ram and it has been perfectly stable. Danny |
Yes, you are right!
The RAM that I was mentioning is for a dual quad core (eight core). |

I am not saying it is wrong to buy now - only you can decide that - but you may want to factor it into your decision. A trusted place to buy memory for Apple computers is Other World Computing: http://macsales.com/ - Martin |
