Quick Color question

This is my first time using Color for a project that needs to go out, I have played with it, but have not had a real use for it.

I am working on a 30 minute piece shot in 1080P 30, sent it to color, I am doing my grading of the 300 cuts when problems arise.

I noticed Color did not want to let me past the 26 minute mark, even though there is more to the project, it does not show up.

The thumbnails dont show up in the color timeline.

I think I properly changed the render directory to /Volumes/Projects/PW Film / but the render files are still going onto my start up disk, even though I changed user, and system prefs for that.

I tried 2 different ways to get the project into Color, I exported directly from FCP to Color, and I tried an XML export from FCP and opened the XML in Color, I know, same thing but 2 ways to do it.

This 30 minute project has taken 14+ hours to render so far, and it is almost half way done, and it takes so much hard drive space to render, am I doing something wrong? I have a Mac Pro, 4gb mem, ATI X1900 video card.

This is due now, so any quick responses would help.

To save future problems for other people.
Color does not like HDV footage, change your FCP timeline compressor to 8 bit uncompressed

Doing that will ensure Color will show the video clips in the timeline.

Break your project up into smaller clips in FCP then do each seq as a separate project in Color, then re-assemble in FCP

No more than 200 clips can go into Color.

Color will not like clips with a speed setting past 12,000 from FCP.

I simply stick with the color-correcting tools in FCP itself. I've tried time and time again to work with color and I can't get a good workflow on it. I'd love for the FCP interface to get an overhaul that included color right in the FCP program, instead of the studio. I feel that Color could be great, but its to primitive in its UI. However I applaud anyone who can get good results out of Color.
