reconnecting media problem

I've been struggling with this for a year. I have final cut 5, two lacie (fat32) porsche drives, and powerbook. I noticed that I have to turn on my lacie drives in a very specific order. If not weird stuff happens, final cut says all the media (on one of the drives) is offline. I have to reconnect one file at a time! Because it doesn't just say all the files have been found.
I have several hard drives now, so it's difficult to turn them on in a specific order. The computer does weird stuff too, like it won't unzip a file in that particular harddrive, it says the file cannot be found.
Is there something I can do to make my computer fully recognize all the hard drives? Like a "pay attention" button.

Are they all connected via firewire at the same time? Also do you have a firewire card if so?

Not that this really helps, but i've had loads of problems with Lacie drives. Things like disconnecting themselves without you doing anything, then taking half an hour to connect it again...i wouldn't be surprised if it was the drives. Have you tried putting all your data on a different external HDD...then renaming the new drive to what your old one was called (so your computer sees it as the same drive and that was you won't have problems with reconnecting media).

It might help to see if it's the drives or something else...hope that helps!

No card, one into the other, then into a firewire port. I just have to turn them on in a specific order, when I forget to it slows me down. If I could refresh the computer or something, instead of ejecting and turning them on again it would help me.
