Archive footage restoration

Hi All,

does anyone have any recommendations for an FCP plugin that deals with the restoration (clean up) of old film/video originated footage.

I'm thinking noise/grain reduction, dropout removal, dirt/sparkle, scratches, etc.

Many thanks in advance - and I hope this is in the right place!

Best, Andrew

Welcome to the forum.

I'd suggest hiring a color-grading specialist and using "Color" which is part of FCS2. That app was specifically designed for both primary and secondary color grading and is the perfect tool for doing what you need.

There is no plug-and-play filter that can globally and easily restore film footage, it's a laborious and time-consuming process than can only be done properly with the right monitors and a highly skilled, trained human eye.

Thanks Robert,

I've done a fair bit of middle / high end restoration in expensive hardware driven suites. Just looking to put together (if it's at all viable) a system for people to use who dont have the £££, but are prepared to wait and maybe compromise a little.

Colour is pretty jaw dropping from a grading perspective, but needs a little help with a dodgy old transfer of a beaten up 16mm print off Beta SP. . .

Has anyone tried 'Film Fix' or the 'CHV Electronics repair collection'?
