Converting Mpeg2 HD to H.264?
I wanted to see if anyone could help me to find the best way to transcode Mpeg2 HD clips to H.264. My footage was shot using my Canon XH-A1 at 30F (1440x1080 HDV) and was edited as HDV in Final Cut 6.0.2. Once captured from the camera the clips are Mpeg2 HD. My goal is to convert my Mpeg2 HD clips to H.264 with as little loss of quality as possible. I then plan to burn playable Blu-Ray discs using Toast 9 without using Toast's H.264 encoder. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Either export from FCP as H.264 or use Compressor to do the same thing. Mpeg2 HD is HDV.

Thanks for the response. Perhaps my question was not clear enough. I know that one can export a sequence from FCP to H.264 or use Compressor to do the same. My question is what method would produce the best results? What settings would I use in Compressor to produce the least compressed H.264 equivalent to my original Mpeg2 HD source footage? Thanks, Hugh |
