FCP6 (is it normal)

I just installed FC Studio 2 on a new Intel 20" iMac with 4gb ram. So far its not meeting expectations. I was wondering if what I'm experiencing is normal. FCP5 seemed to run smoother and faster on my non-intel mac-mini. I was thinking I'd be impressed when I made the upgrade on hardware and software.

First of all, FC Studio 2 and iMac are spinning beach ball city. I switch from mouse to keyboard and go back to the mouse to move the cursor down the timeline and the beach ball starts spinning as if I'd just returned from a two hour lunch break. My old software/hard ware didn't do this. Is this normal?

I can't work with iPhoto slide shows the way I used to. First of all, I know the iphoto slide show movies are coming in at 30fps. The audio rate is 44.1. I immediately get a warning: "Attention this clip doesn't match this sequences settings... Do you want to change it? So once I put it in, the movie will sometimes display properly on my screen in FCP but it won't show in my broadcast monitor until I hit the stop/space bar and it will display the single frame in the broadcast monitor.

I had to go back to my old mac and old software to render iphoto movies and then bring it over to the new mac.

Are you living the same lives on your end or do I have some kind of conflict going on in my setup?
Thanks,

Not sure about the iPhoto stuff but FCS2 is no less reactive in terms of cursor moves and interacting with the timeline on my lesser spec'd iMac doing general video editing compared to FCS1 - so I'd suspect you've got a problem somewhere
