Macbook and FCE

I have a friend who wants to do offline editing with Final Cut Express on the cheapest MacBook (not Pro). Is anybody doing that? Long rendering times don't matter, using Motion, Color, etc., don't matter. Just straight cuts, dissolves, fades. He'll take the FCE files to a studio with FCP to post with his original HDCAM.

The MacBook meets the specs, but I'd like to know if anybody is really using it. I know the 17" MacBook Pro is better, that's what I have. But he wants an offline system as cheaply as possible.
