Audio Channel Blending/Converting

I have two channels of audio i'd like to combine into a new set of two. The L is background wild sound, the Right is dialog.

In Sony Sound Forge there's a tool to recombine two channels, for example the new L would be 20% from the old L and 80% from the old R.

I have FCP, Soundtrack Pro, and Peak Pro at my disposal, but have not found any tool or way to do it.

Any ideas?

Scott,

If I understand you correctly, you want to mix a new audio file based on two original audio files. You can easily do that with the tools you have. For example, in Soundtrack Pro, you'd load both source files into a multi-track project, set the track volumes to the desired ratio, and write the resulting (mono) audio to a file.

Bah, easier than that. Do it in FCP.

-Select the clip in the timeline
-Under the Modify menu, de-select Stereo Pair to turn the audio tracks into solo mono tracks
-Double click on the clip in the timeline to load it into the Viewer.
-You should have Audio 1 & Audio 2 as tabs at the top of the window. In each, set the Pan to 0
-Raise or lower the individual track gains until you get the mix you are looking for

If you need to do this to multiple clips, do the above and then:
- Select the changed clip in the timeline.
- Hit Command - C to "Copy"
- Draw a bounding box around the rest of the clips to be changed with the Arrow (Selection) Tool or use one of the Track Selection tools to highlight all the clips to be changed
- Right-Click (or Command - Click) on the first highlighted clip.
- From the contextual menu select Paste Attributes
- From the pop up menu, select Pan and Levels under Audio and hit ok.
