Fonts, Which types, styles to avoid

I read a post some time ago about Fonts and the best to use and the ones to avoid.
I have noticed with fonts that I use look great in the editing stage but once rendered look like the edges are haggard and have lost resolution.
Are there fonts that render better than others? Which types, styles to avoid.

Thanks

Use sans-serif fonts, and add a drop shadow if the text isn't over a solid color background. Impact is a good one (and a long-running inside joke in my editing class) but I prefer Bank Gothic because it has small caps. Personal preference there, though. Arial is safe but boring. Anything with serifs or especially thin sections aren't good.

i find reducing opacity between 90-96 helps the not so happy fonts.

TRAJAN!

It's the movie font.

Also, a little blur of like .5 or 1 point helps antialias the fonts and avoid flicker on TVs.
