A question of color and gamma

I, like many FCP users, have been battling the QT gamma shift bug. I was wondering if a possible solution would be to change the color calibration of my monitor so that when I work in FCP, the screen is set to an unusually washed out Gamma (to mimic a PC) and then color correct with that screen profile. Would this "trick" be useful or self-defeating in the long run? Anyone have a more practical solution to the gamma shift bug? (I've tried the gamma bug stripper app and it doesn't seem to work for me)

I have no fix for the video itself, but you may already know in quicktime's preferences on the bottom there is a check box for "enable final cut studio compatibility". Which may help for personal viewing at least.
