MatroxRT Mac

Hi.

This may or may not have been asked...

What is the MatroxRT Mac good for?

I just picked one up for $200 yesterday. So far I am VERY happy with it. I don't have to use my camera as a port to view the video on the TV.

Any help would be great.

What OS are you using, OS X or 9.2.2?

Aaron Rosen September 11th, 2003 01:09 AM

I am using Mac OS X 10.2.6.

I had to do the following to get the card to work:

- Reboot in Sys. 9
- Turn off the computer (still in sys. 9)
- Install the card
- Reboot the computer in Sys. 9 and update the firmware on the card
- Reboot in OS X
- Install the OS X beta software
- CARD WORKS!

I bought the card hoping that it would work and got it home to find out it did't let the computer boot in OS X. Then found out about the beta software being released the same day. GOOD TIMING!

The only issue I noticed is that the Audio is out of sync. on play back. I have not had time to figure out that problem.

Hope this answers your question, and then some.

Audio out of sync could be the beta drivers. You might want to try contacting Matrox.

From what I gather from the Matrox web site forum, Matrox is useless in aiding users in a final solution.

The users are very vocal and blunt about their feelings regarding the inability of Matrox to finialize a OS X driver.

I will keep my opinions to myself at this point since I have played with my new TOY.

I will also comb the Matrox site for more info, play with the card and FCP4 more and post my results here.

Buying the card was more of an impulse buy, so I did not really know what I was getting into. I was hoping for the best.

It looks promising if a final driver can be made.

The Matrox users are very upset in most cases. It took them forever to develop even Beta drivers. I'm surprised they still have a users forum.

Count me in as one of those "upset" users. I have had a $1,000 RTMac sitting in a box on the floor for nearly 2 years. The breakout box is the best feature of this product, in my opinion. But even under OS 9.x the board interfered with several functions, most notably the system's ability to sleep.

I got the impression that Matrox put support and development for the RTMac in the closet as soon as FCP introduced real-time effects, the RTMac's claim to fame.

I recently registered t download the beta OS-X drivers but have not yet had the time or sufficient motivation to do anything with them.

Grrr..
