compressor 16:9 problems
 

Hey Folks, I have an HDV 30p project in 16:9 and when I export it form FCPS to compressor using the H.264 codec it keeps converting it to 4:3. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong.

In the Inspector, go to the Geometry pane and, under Dimensions>Frame Size, scroll down to "Custom (16:9)" and select that.

Hey David, That didn't seem to work. Now if I export the video as a QT reference movie and import it into Compressor I have no issues. But If I export the video using compressor and continues to encode it as 4:3 ,I can't seem to get it to work. I'm using the Quicktime H.264 codec and tried a few different setting but still nothing.

did you set the width and height to values corresponding to a 16x9 frame size like 853x480?

Right. And if your h264 videos looked squished, open one in quicktime and Hit apple+j, go to presentation and check conform aperture. If the video is 16x9 that will fix it. You probably know that anamorphic 16x9 is actually 4:3 -except when properly displayed it is stretched to 853x480. If that fixes it, you can save in quicktime after you make an adjustment like that, so it will open correctly in the future. But it will also save where you are in the video, so don't save unless you are at the beginning of the video.
