Dead Pixel in Apple Cinema Display!

I've only had this 20" Cinema Display for about 2 weeks or so and it has already developed a dead pixel! Alright! Back it goes! I'll go through a hundred of these things if I have to. I will not accept even ONE dead pixel.

Good luck. Most companies, including Circuit City and Dell, won't accept returns for a small number of dead pixels. I totally sympathisize with you, but as a customer of a several LCD products with 1-2 dead (completely unlit)/stuck (permanently light in at least one color) pixels, you'll get used to it once the initial anger/disappointment subsides. The rationalization for selling
displays with a tiny # of dead pixels is the price. Otherwise, the price would be WAY more for perfect one.

If you return it, don't tell them why. As always you have a month to return things, but if you tell them it's for just one dead pixel, they won't take it back. Tell them you bought the wrong one or something; whatever it takes.

Actually I got it at CompUSA and their policy is 14 days. They took it back without issue and were very friendly. I told them "dead pixel" (singular) and they told me to go get another Cinema Display. They almost gave me the 23 incher, but it wouldn't have fit on my desk so I stopped them (I will probably forever regret it, though).

When I bought the original monitor, I also got the 2 year plan for $109 since I knew that dead pixels can happen with LCDs. Not cheap, but I intend to take advantage of it. It might just be easier to take this one back when dust collects on the screen rather than wiping it with a soft cloth. :)

By the way, what is the best way to clean an LCD screen?

Imran Zaidi March 15th, 2004 12:51 PM

You lucked out!

Best way to clean an LCD screen is a lint free tissue moistened with water only. Many glass cleaners have ammonia in it and this can harm the LCD screen over time.

Also, I believe CompUSA carries a pack of LCD screen cleaner pads. That would be the easy-safe option...

Ted.. you didn't take the 23 incher?? You are mad.. I would edit on the floor with one of those!! ;-)

Joe Lloyd March 29th, 2004 05:02 PM

Yeah , or get a cheap desk for it to sit on.....
of course I would also sell my soul for a 23" so it says something about my priorities

oh sorry didn't realize we were talking about monitors....haha j/k
