Keep LiveType: No need to uninstall older versions of Final Cut Studio

While I uninstalled Final Cut Studio 2 before installing FCS (3), you don't need to do it. In fact, you can keep it on the system and the newest version will update the proper apps and keep LiveType on your system.

Nice!

Great to hear. I'm a simple guy who just uses Boris 3D for graphics, but I know a ton of people who use LiveType and don't really want to move into Motion 4 just yet.

That is correct- also if you *do* for whatever reason wish to keep the original FCS 2 versions of any of the apps all you have to do is rename the originals like Final Cut Pro- 6 and they will not be overwritten. One caveat is your prefs files will be each time you start one or the other version. But I do this all the time with no major issues.

I would be nice to be able to do the graphics right in FCP instead of having to jump out to Motion or Live Type just to do a simple lower third or something.

(Yeah, I know you can do lower thirds in FCP, but they're very basic...) :)

Check out some of the plug-ins for FCP in FxFactory:

VERY basic!

With FCS2, one of the biggest surprises for me was being able to import LiveType projects into FCP instead of prerendered movies so that updating content is WAY easier. I use LT for ALL my basic text and don't use the FCP text tool for ANYTHING anymore. Motion just isn't that stable on my interim edit machine (a white iMac 2.16GHz until my Mac Pro purchase this fall).
