Cant see Blu-Ray drive on desktop
 

I just plugged in my new Pioneer BDR-203 along with the Nexstar enclosure via USB2. I cannot see the drive anywhere. Help. Thanks.

I didn't think Apple's supported BluRay. Did this change recently?

The drive won't mount without additional software, like Roxio Toast 10 or another program that will burn discs. You "might" be able to do it using the Finder. Right click on your desktop and choose "New Burn Folder". Drop what you want burn to disc in the folder, then try to burn. If all goes well you'll see your new blu-ray drive as an option to choose to burn too.

I inserted a blank Blu-Ray disc and the disc did show up on my desktop. I put my files that were created with the new Final Cut Studio exporting as Blu-Ray and burned the disc. Should play right? My Blu-Ray player would not recognize the disc.

In a separate test I used DVD Studio Pro to burn the same files onto a standard DVD and it played fine. Did this technically burn a Blu-Ray this way, it was only a 3 min video, so space is not an issue.

I take that last part back, did not use DVDSP, but burned through my regular drive on a regular DVD

That´s how toast burns Blu-Ray disks using the "normal" DVD burner on your mac. A DVD can only hold about 20 min of BD content.
When I do this the BD plays fine in my PS3, but I haven´t tested it in any other players yet.

I am good to go now. Everything works fine and yes no difference in quality at all with a regular DVD and a BD with this short of a video.

So were you able to burn an actual BD disc and get good playback in a blu-ray player?

I hope to pick up one of these burners once I update to FCS 3. I am glad people have had good experiences with it.
