FCP 4.5 output problems - Please help - URGENT

Hello,

We're having problems outputing VIA firewire to our Sony VX1000 and to our Canopus ADVC 100.

The video plays back choppy and the audio jumps.

We're able to edit just fine, however when we go to dump to tape ... we run in to the above mentioned problems.

I'm assuming it's just a setting we've negelected to set, but I'm not entirely sure.

System specs:

Power PC G4 (2.1)
OSX 3.3.4
933 mh
1 gig ram
Bus Speed 133

Also, on a side not, is there a way where we can set a default option so FCP opens to a new blank project as oppose to opening to the most previous project worked on.

Thank you.

Are you using Print to Video or Edit to Tape?

Jason R. Wood June 30th, 2004 09:26 PM

I've tried both methods w/the same results.

Isn't there a way I can use the ADVC transcoder to view my timeline sequence on an external monitor?

To my knowledge I have the Canopus unit set up correctly, but the video play back is jumpy on my NTSC monitor and the audio plays worse than the video.

I've played with the settings w/no luck. I know it's not the ADVC 100 because I get the same results when I try to play back directly to the deck which is plugged straight in to the G4 VIA firewire.

I have a similar set up on my home AVID system and it works just fine.

Make sure mirror on desktop is off. You might also try deleting the preferences. See the first post in the forum.

I'll try first thing in the morning. Thank you.

I've had this problem as well. My solution is to export the project sequence (timeline) as a movie (.mov), import that movie, place it into its own sequence, then assemble that sequence to tape. If there's a problem in the .mov(ie) then I will catch it before committing to tape, which saves time.

a few other things that help when printing to tape:
- lower the display of your monitor as small as you can (fe 1024x768, millions of colors only);
- make sure that none of the FCP windows overlap;
- close all other apps, windows, sequences and bins that you may have open;
- indeed, make sure that mirror on desktop is turned off.

hope this helps
