Transferring FCE files

Hello,

My brother and I are editing a film project together with Final Cut Express. We both have iMacs, with identical video files on our harddrives. I'll edit a scene, put the project file on a USB, then put it on his computer so he can do further edits. This works great, but I have a problem.

I'm about to move back to school and we need to continue editing. I figured since you can transfer the project files via USB, you should be able to do so via email as well, but this doesn't seem to work. When opening them on his computer, it gives the "There is no application that can run this file" message. I've also tried sending it via yousendit.com, but it still doesn't work.

What is the difference? Why does USB transfer work, but not email? Any ideas on how to make this work?

Scott

Any ideas? Maybe uploading the file to an FTP? I just don't see why I can move a project from one computer to another with a USB stick, but not through email.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does that mean? Thanks!

Simpler, Right-click (control-click) on the file and choose Archive file. This will produce a .zip file that will retain the meta-data required for the file to reunite with the app on the other end :)
