FCP and XHA1

i have the new fcp studio and snow leopard installed on my mac book pro...most of the stuff i've been editing is all SD...my friends gave me some footage shot with an xha1 (HD 60i)...i can't find an import setting that will work...

what should i set my capture/sequence settings to? i've tried prores, hd, hdv, etc and i still can't get FCP to even recognize the camera for logging/capture

thanks in advance

I've seen sporadic issues on the forums with capturing HDV in FCS/Snow Leopard. You may want to do a search first to see if it's something that affects your setup.

You could also try the following:
1. If you are capturing directly from the XH A1 cam, use the Capture Now option in Log & Capture. Manually press Play on the XH A1 then start the capture process. [EDIT] For Canon camcorders you should set the capture protocol to Firewire Basic.

2. If you are trying to import .m2t files that have been downloaded from an XH A1 then you'll have to re-wrap OR transcode your files into a format that Final Cut Pro can ingest. To re-wrap use: Clip Wrap

Welcome to DVinfo, Matt.

Canon and JVC HDV cameras have been notoriously difficult in communicating with both FCP and Premiere; I'm not an HDV shooter but there is a forum category specific to your Canon camera and there are tons of posts about proper camera/FCP setup for capture and footage editing.
