Importing standard dv footage into FCPHD

Which "pulldown" should I use to get the best quality footage when importing standard dv into FCPHD?
I'm composing this message at the office so I don't have access to the 3 pulldown options offered. I believe one was 2:3:3:2. I think this is the one I'm using.

Standard DV is 29.97 fps...and requires no pulldown whatsoever when capturing. Just capture and edit.

Only if you shot DV video at 24p or 24PA do you need to worry about pulldown. If you add pulldown to your 'standard' DV video, it will look choppy and like crap.

Crap is a technical term now....

Hi Shane,
Thanks for the information. That "pulldown" I was refering to is a playback function. And (similar to what you said) has nothing to do with the quality of the final product.
Thanks again Shane.

I didn't know "crap" was a technical term. Just goes to show: We learn somethin' new everyday!

You shouldn't be using any 'pulldown' with your standard footage. At all. Standard footage is not pulled down. Pull down refers to the process of converting 24 frames (or 25) to play back at 30 fps. If your footage already is 30 fps, then you should not have any pulldown...not during capture OR playback.

Shot on standard DV - NO PULLDOWN.
Shot on DV at 24P - PULLDOWN.
Shot on DV at 24PA - ADVANCED PULLDOWN.
Shot on film, telecined to tape, and you are going to edit and go back to tape - NO PULLDOWN
Shot on film, telecined to tape, you are going to have the negative cut - Reverse telecine the clips and edit 24 fps.

Hi Shane,
Under FCPHD System Settings/playback controls/pulldown pattern:
2:3:2:3
2:3:3:2
2:2:2:4

One of these patterns has to be selected. I understand the 3:2 pulldown as it relates to importing 24fps video. I just don't understand this playback pulldown pattern thing. Sorry to keep buggin' you with this issue.

Just use the Easy Setup settings and choose the appropriate DV/DVCPRO setup. There is no pull down for DV.

Hi Dave,
I've used the easy set up from day 1. No problem there. My question is:
What does the pulldown pattern in the playback controls actually do?
BTW: Nice site and I love the band and the way you put the movie together. My kind of music.
