Tiger roars on April 29th!

It's Official - Tiger roars on April 29th!

This means Quicktime 7....HD on the Mac in a serious way!

Also, FCP 5 should be out soon!@@@

Tiger shipping in April!

It's official:

I'm assuming that FCP5 will go on sale at the same time, which would be about right. Announce at NAB and be released 2 weeks later.

Luis Caffesse April 12th, 2005 11:54 AM

Apparently 'Tiger' isn't the only announcement that Apple has in store for NAB

New Power Macs to be Announced?

Boy, between Mac, JVC, and Panasonic.....this is going to be a long week of waiting.

Boyd Ostroff April 12th, 2005 01:38 PM

Of course they are going to introduce new faster, cheaper G5 systems. I just bought a dual G5/2.5... ;-)

Don't sweat it Boyd, most of us wish we could be in the position to lament having just bought a dual G5/2.5

Besides, the announcement will either be something small, or something huge that won't be available for another 8-12 months (like a dual core G5).

(I hope)

Luis Caffesse April 14th, 2005 03:44 PM

Well, looks like I may have spoken too soon Boyd (maybe).
As a follow up to that....

New Power Mac G5, iMac G5, eMac Specs?

Could be a small update...
or they could be dual core machines.

(the question mark was my addition to the headline, given the source)

:)

Either way... I can't wait.
I guess we'll know for certain in a few days.

I think that I just had the most brilliant idea. The stock holders want an absolute return on their invest at Apple.

Why don't we pay a little extra up from on our Mac purchases...so they DON'T upgrade the Macs! lol...then we'll all save lots of money! :)

The stock holders will make more money up front and everyone knows corporations are dumb and take the money when they can get it!

Greg Harris April 15th, 2005 08:15 AM

so no word on if G5 powerbooks?

Boyd Ostroff April 15th, 2005 08:40 AM

At the Apple conference call the other day they reiterated that the G5 Powerbook was "the mother of all thermal challenges." Nobody is expecting those this year. There have been rumors of dual G4 powerbooks however...

Boyd Ostroff April 19th, 2005 02:01 PM

Nothing too exciting for new G5's?

Luis: Now both Macrumors and Thinksecret are reporting that the new G5's will not feature BluRay, faster PCI slots or dual core processors after all, but will only be a minor speed bump from the existing models (with the fastest being a 2.7ghz dual G5). http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0504g5notes.html

So - if any of this is true - it looks like I did the right thing by purchasing my G5 a month ago instead of waiting. However, the new machines will probably give you a little better bang for the buck. I also assume this means that FCP 5 should run acceptably on the current G5's and not require some new double-secret quad processor monsters :-)

Unfortunately Murph, Apple doesn't pay a dividend to its stockholders. I have a few hundred shares of Apple and was going to reinvest my dividends and that's how I found out. :-(

Yeah, the small bump in performance is kind of bad news.
I was really hoping for the dual core announcement, but seeing that they plan on doing a small speed bump on the G5s tells me that the dual core's probably won't be here until next year. I mean, they aren't going to bump the G5 up to 2.7Ghz, and then announce dual core 2 or 3 months later.

I'm aching to get into a G5...just want to make the switch at the right time.
Then again, the best time to by is when you need the gear.
Unfortunately, I can't really say I "NEED" a new G5.... it would make my life easier, that's for sure, but I can still make due with what I have.
So, until then, I'm left with my dual processor Avid system. Yeah, I know, my life is rough.

:)
