G5 able to use regular monitor?

I'm interested in picking up a G5 but my current budget only allows me to get the powermac itself, I can't afford a monitor now. I don't want to wait until I can afford a cinema display because I don't even really want one, a regular monitor is good enough for me. So can the G5s be used with a standard windows lcd monitor?

There's no such thing in this day and age as a windows monitor. The G5s are equiped with a standard DVI connection so any DVI capable monitor will work in most cases.

I would suggest going to eBay and looking at the Dell FPW2005 widescreen 20" monitors. They are the same resolution as the 20" Apple Cinema displays but about half the price.

Yes, the G5's can support just about any "regular" monitor. The new machines have two DVI ports, the previous models had one DVI and one ADC port. Adaptors to go from DVI > VGA, ADC > DVI and ADC > VGA are inexpensive (~$25) and easily found. I have one of the previous generation G5's (dual 2.5 ghz) and it was supplied with a DVI > VGA adaptor. Not sure if the new models continue this tradition or not.

But regardless, you should be able to plug almost anything into the G5, then click on the Monitors icon in System Preferences and configure it as desired.

Alright thanks a lot guys. Good, I can hang onto my current monitor then.
