interlace vs. progressive

im working on a project now that is going to be shot on a sony HDV. when i import the footage it looks real nice. but when i save out QT's to take into after effects i of course get the interlace lines real bad in the motion. so if i just export a QT from FCP it has a de-interlace filter (or appears to) but the quality loss is extremely significant. what can i do? is there a setting in the camera that can record as progressive instead or a setting in the capture to avoid this so i dont have to use a filter, that asit appears to me essentially just blurs the frame.

if it helps the final output is to a DVD and will be played on progressive scan monitors.

if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Which camera are you using? It may or may not support progressive.

If it doesn't there is not much you can do except a de-interlace in post. A
capture can never be done in progressive (if the source is interlaced).
