XL1S sync issues

What is it with the Canon Xl1s and audio drift, i use final cut express and if i capture more than say 30/40/50 minutes the drift is dreadfull, i know FCE1 has a "sync adjust over movies" but it makes no difference, anyone know or have this problem.
thanks

john

This only seems to be a problem with Mac editing software. I've moved your
thread to the Mac editing forum.

Please do a search in the following manner:

1. click search above

2. a popup appears, click on advanced search

3. for keyword enter: sync

4. make sure you select the Mac forum (Non-linear DV Editing on the Mac) in the lower right corner to restrict searching to just the Mac forum

This should yield plenty of results on the sync "problem"

it is a canon issue

Rob Lohman June 22nd, 2005 05:18 AM

That may very well be, but this problem does not appear with PC editing
software like Premiere or Vegas. Again, if you look here in the Mac forum
you'll find plenty of threads on the camera and iMovie / FCP having problems.
Since your post falls in the same category the thread is better suited here.

p.s. if you read my post above carefully you'll notice I never said it was a
Mac or FCP problem. I also never said it ISN'T a "Canon" problem. I just
stated that this SEEMS to only BE a problem on the Mac platform (in
combination with the XL1S).

this being a dv site someone must know how to cure this problem.

Dan Euritt June 22nd, 2005 10:18 AM

john, there is no audio drift issue with the canon xl1s, period.

you might be confusing the xl1s with the early xl1, which i believe did have an issue with the audio clock frequency being very slightly off... but that was fixed a long time ago.

try looking in your capture app for a "locked audio" setting.

Not a Mac issue -
I have the same problem in Adobe Premiere, but that is with a Canon XL1. Not sure if it's been fixed in the XL1s

Seems to be with the xl1s because the audio is not locked, and the "sync adjust over movies" does not make any difference.

I am still having this problem, does anyone know what setting (if it is that)or what could it be, or is there a fix for this audio drift.

thanks

john

if i take footage from the xl1s to the canopus advc (which has locked audio) the to the firwire port of the mac for capture, i should get locked audio..correct?, so therefore i would not have audio/sync drift.

thanks

anyone know ?

Tape sync versus HD sync

I almost always get sync issues when using tape with the XL1s and FCP4 - 5. I take it that this has to do with time code breaks. Using DLE hard drive with a tape in the camera for backup gives me sync problems on tape but not on the hard drive. The DLE system is suppose to put better or real time code in. Go figure.
