How to get large Mac files onto a PC drive ??
 

It's easy to copy small files to a PC hard drive, but it won't let you copy large ones. Are there any workarounds?

How are you copying? I copy files from Macs onto my PC all the time.

There is a limit to the file size that you can copy to a PC. My .mov files are huge.

There are several apps on the market, some premium payware, some freeware. Here's just two options:

Google Mac to PC file exchange/transfer and you'll come up with more than 10 options; pick the one that fits your budget/workflow requirements.

I'm glad someone knows what he's talking about because I sure don't. I pass uncompressed files back and forth with no problems. Heck you could put an ethernet cable on both and ftp the file from one to the other. Ethernet doesn't care what the underlying OS or filesystem is.

Yes, there is this bizarre limit on the size of file that you can transfer via hard drive. An iPod would work, but we're talking about 200GB. Small files are no problem for me.

I moved half a dozen 25-40GB files last year from my friends Mac drive to my PC. I use the Macdrive program on my PC.

There's more than one method people are moving files from Mac to PC: Some are going from one physical computer to another, in which case ethernet and sharing is all you need. However if you're going direct from one HDD to another - such as with a BootCamp partitioned system with an NTFS drive formatted larger than 32GB - then external ethernet obviously won't work, which is why either of those apps mentioned - and others - will get around the file-size limit seen between direct transfers.

So instead of plugging the external into my Mac I could plug the external into a networked PC and copy that way? That would be the easiest fix.

If you are finding that you can't transfer large files to the drive, it could be because it's formatted as FAT32, which limits your file size. Check if it is.

You can reformat as NTFS and you should be good to go.
