can get my notebook to see my P2 camera

so I can't get Quicktim Broadcast to see my HPX-500.
Nor can I get FCP 6 to see the camera as a live source, like capture now.
It seems the USB 2.0 is only a card out and the notebook has no firewire inputs.
How can I overcome this obstacle?
thx

forgot to explain the problem further. All the HD input selections in FCP are firewire options. Yet my notebook has no firewire inputs.

FCP cannot capture with USB, it requires Firewire.

Gary Chavez November 23rd, 2009 04:56 PM

yeah, I remembered' that. But now I am firewire out to the notebook and with log and capture open I get audio but bars only on video.
Using easy set up- HDVPRO 720p.
I have done this before several times and now I am completely out of ideas.
I had wanted to stream video using this camera and this notebook.
In system profiler under the Firewire heading it does see the camera, by name and everything so i don't know where the disconnect is.

First let's make sure you've not confused your formats...

You said, "HDVPRO 720p". Did you mean "DVC"-pro instead? If you've inadvertently selected an HDV format rather than DVCPRO-HD that's the source of your problem.

I'm not following how you're getting into FCP: You said your laptop doesn't have Firewire so regardless how you're coming out *from* the camera, how are you getting it into FCP?

1st, thx for your patience, I was pretty wrapped around the axle when I posted.

OK, Notebook has 2 USB ports and a firewire 400/800 (don't remember which) port.
So going firewire out from the hpx-500 into the notebook's firewire 400 in.
HPX-500 is set at HD 720p 30 . FCP set up using using Easy Setup HD DVCPRO 720p 30

In the past, open FCP 6, Log and Capture and bingo, live video.

I have no idea what I am functions I am doing or not doing this time.

There are a couple things that could be the culprit:

- FCP needs to have it's cache cleaned out and refreshed. I can't remember the name of the application but there are a few freeware apps that do this.
- The FW cable might be going bad; try another cable.
- The project you're working on might be corrupt; after you clean up FCP try a new project and "capture now" operation.
- The OS needs to be tuned-up: Onyx for Mac. Freeware.

Try this stuff first and see what happens.
