How to properly setup files for editing

Hi,

Premiere user, new to Final cut Cut Pro. I'm trying to figure out the best setup, so I don't run into trouble with missing files, and stay organized.

I have a system drive and an external.

Do I keep the Project file on the system drive, and everything else media/capture scratch on 2nd drive?

So far I have this - hierarchy of folders

2nd DRive
Title of project
Video files, Audio Files, Final cut pro Documents
Capture Scratch, Render Files

Is this correct? Should the video files be in the capture scratch?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Joe,

Do me a favor (I'd do it myself but I'm running short on time to catch a train): Send me an email with exactly the information you asked about here in this thread.

I've been threatening to launch a new review and workflow website specifically for people exactly like yourself who need consolidated information on stuff just like this on NLE editing, setups, etc., but "work" has kept me from making my own publishing deadline. Seeing this question posted here gives me the push I need to finally get it online and available for people like yourself to get into it's info.

I had already started a page about how to setup a system with various configurations (laptop, iMac, tower etc) for both Premiere Pro and FCP, so if you could send me this info it will remind me to include this specific topic in the "How To" pages of the site - which "god willing" will finally get launched late tomorrow.

Then you'll have all the info you need and others will benefit from having the quick-reference page also.

Cheers.

Joe,

Here's the info you requested; it's a bit more than you were originally asking for but it will give you a logical upgrade path when you're ready to go to the next level:

How to Setup your Computer for Video Editing | Go-Go-Godzilla.com

The site will get updated at least weekly starting right after the holidays so there will be tons more information like this for you to use.

Don't hesitate to put in a "request" for anything you want to know about, whether it's a product review or a "how to" article.
