Encoding for WMV

I'm trying to encode a FCS project to Windows Media (wmv) to incorporate into a power point show. I have Flip 4 Mac installed. When I export using quicktime conversion I get the expected dialog box and the process appears to go smoothly.

When I open the movie, only about 70% of it has been encoded; it stops abruptly. I've run the encode on 2 different machines, tried all the drop down menus, even set in and out points on my timeline. Nothing helps.

Is this some bs feature of the free version of Flip 4 Mac, downloaded from the Apple site, that it doesn't encode the entire project? Total clip length is only 12 seconds.

I'm stumped.

Thanks in advance

Allow me to answer my own question after someone pointed me toward the obvious.

The free Flip 4 Mac plugin available at apple.com is known to export fragments of movies. I guess they are hoping you'll upgrade to the $50 version.

I found this: Video Converter for Mac - FLV, WMV, MKV, M2TS, MOV, MP4 Converter for iPod, iPhone, PSP, etc. on Mac OS X Snow Leopard
which seems to do a fine job for less except you cannot export from within FCS, you have to open the original QT movie and convert it. But it works.

Hopefully this will help some other troubled soul!

The free version of Telestream's Flip4Mac plug-in only will export 30-seconds of video. You need to pay for one of their other versions to get a full length encode.

We've been using WMV Studio Pro HD for the last 5 years now. There is no substitute in my opinion. In fact, a client thought he found a free solution, but his WMV files would never play on his clients computers. Only our WMV would play correctly. (nice justification for our significant investment)

I highly recommend Telestream's WMV Studio QuickTime plug-in. (also known as Flip4Mac)
