Need tips on improving resolution/look of Internet video

Any tips (ie, video filters) on how to improve the resolution of video footage downloaded from the internet? Specifically, I’ve been downloading some video clips from news station sites and am trying to figure out if there’s a way to improve the look and resolution of the footage in a HD Final Cut timeline. Most of the footage I’ve downloaded is in 16x9 aspect ratio. But playing the clips back in the Final Cut timeline, the video often looks a bit blocky with some tiling … and not nearly as sharp as I’d hoped. Any tips on ways to improve the resolution would be hugely appreciated. Thanks.
