HDR Video...is this done in post?

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum...

Take a look at this video I stumbled across:

It's a HDR Look video and the maker isn't giving too much away about how he did it, I was wondering if we could collectively crack the code? From 2:20 it really kicks in as some unbelievable photography.

My best guess is most of the legwork is done in post but in terms of specifics i'm stumped.

Any ideas?

Neil

it is probably not real HDR, but he simply duplicate the video and apply a luma filter to some other "view".(darker, lighter) (hence the big artifacts you can see sometimes)
then he exports to a suite of picture and treats it like HDR.
If you are ready to spend a lot of time on it, you can shoot HDR with a 3D mirror rig.
You just need to set the lens offset to zero (both cameras get same picture) and shoot with one camera properly set, and the other one with ND filter.
then again , export as suite of picture and process as HDR.

I'd definitely say this effect has been done in post, using bracketed color correction then comp'd together with some sort of mask. There's awful artifacting as a result and while it's an 'interesting' look it's a really poor example of video HDR.

I have seen another, much better example, that was done practically using two cameras on a mirror rig (like 3D, except set up so that there was no differences between the points of view.)
