ssd good for rendering ?

Hey, in my quest of purchasing the right imac people told me to have a ssd as the hard-drive.
On that ssd I had to install my applications and I can work on projects on external drives.
Now someone mentioned to have the applications installed on a 7200" hdd and do my editings of projects on an ssd.
Now I'm still confused what's best or what to choose. ;o)

Anyone an idea ?

Quite frankly, depending on the files and filters you are using, a regular 7200rpm hard drive is generally faster than rendering. The CPU is more important than the drive in most cases. A SSD is good for application response and will speed up some of your work but it remains to seen if a significant improvement is there for video production that compensates for the high price and low capacity of presently available SSDs.

Agreed. Plus, for HD, an SSD will fillup really fast.
