Help! FCP5 DV/HDV Offline/Online Solution

Working on a feature doc shot with FX1 in FCP5, we've got stuck with the Offline/Online issue.

Basically, we want to capture and rough-edit with DV, and then want to recapture the rough edit sequence with HDV as Online.

Is this possible in FCP5? and if so, what is the workflow?

We were playing around with Media Manager, but couldn't figure out how exactly.

Turn the HDV to DV hardware conversion on the cam or the deck and capture the hole tape with DV or offline codec, do the rough edit, then use the media manager to convert the project to HDV, then batch capture only needed clips with HDV codec. You will be working really fast on the rough editing process.

Ito Kaku san, You mentioned this in the other thread, could you explain the workflow in detail?

What part of media manager are you having problems with?

I tried both DV to HDV and offline to HDV. They both worked for me.
Even with the multi-cam feature.

Only problem I had was the media manager's automatic pixel ratio adjustment screws up upon replacing to the online format.
But you can quickly fix that with the right click and omitting the ratio adjustment.

Relating to the display pixel issue, you have to make sure that you set up (select) the offline format to be anamorphic such as "DV anamorphic" or "offline anamorphic".

Sorted!

Thanks for your reply.
We went through the Media Manager again, and somehow sorted now.
The problem was, when opening DV & HDV project simaltaneously, Sequence setting was confusing and that was giving all the trouble.

Thanks anyway.

cheers
