Motion Jpeg codec missing

Iīm not able to find this codec any more on my system. I know for sure that before I upgraded to Snow Leopard and Quick Time X, I had this codec and many others on my system.

My current setup is:
Mac OS X v 10.6.5
FCP v 7.0.3
I have both QT v 7.6.6 and QT v 10.0 (118) installed on my system.

I tried System prefs and searched for Quick time, but itīs not there any more

Could somebody tell me how to get this codecs back on my system?

You need to go into Quicktime preferences in system preferences and enable legacy codecs.

Craig thanks for your replay. Itīs not that easy! I have NO Quicktime icon in the system preference any more. So I can not find any place to enable legacy codecs at my system.

To give you some more info, I have a MacBook Pro, running system described in thread #1. This is the machine which Iīm not able to get those legacy codecs back on track.

I have another machine, a Mac Pro, with a identical system installed. On this machine I had fortunately enabled legacy codecs before installing snow leopard os x and quick time 10.
On this machine I have all codecs in the list, thank god!

But my problem is that Iīm traveling a lot and I really need legacy codecs on the macbook pro too.
Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Under Snow Leopard I believe Quictime 7 has been moved into Utilities. You might find a way to get to the preferences from there.

Per Johan Naesje December 26th, 2010 05:21 AM

Thatīs correct. I have installed Quick Time 7 additional as Snow Leopard install only Quick Time 10. And QT7 is located in the Utilities folder. But there seem not to be any option for legacy codec there either!

Maybe I have to tweak some into register settings to enable legacy codecs. Anybody have some instructions?

The reason for the important of having those codecs is some of my clients require it.

Re: Motion Jpeg codec missing

I finally found a solution to this!
Open Terminal and write:
qtdefaults write LegacyCodecsEnabled yes

Restart QT and you have all legacy codecs back on track!
