Older version of FCP and T2i

Hello,
I was wondering what the best codec is to trans-code to other than prores?
I use mpeg stream-clip

thanks with version 5.1.4 am i going to have to render every clip that bring to the time-line?

Do you mean do you need to convert every clip to DVCPro HD? Yes.

i understand that but every time i put a transition on the clip or make an adjustment i have to render it on the time-line to view it. Is there a way around this?

That's because your sequence settings don't match the footage in your timeline.

This is covered in your FCP manual, BTW.
