Is there an easy way to edit when you have lots of text subtitles in a timeline?
 

I'm editing a scene that has lots of translation. If I move a subtitle, I need to render everything all over again. Is there any way I can edit, move things around, and not need to constantly re-render to watch my scene in the timeline with the subtitles (I know I can black out that track and then watch it all without subtitles. That's what I do now. I'm trying to go beyond that if I can.)

I use Premiere Pro but maybe Final Cut has a way to create previews (essentially pre-renders) of the video then it will only render what you changed? Cheers

First, do the subtitles need to be done at the same time as the transitions? Perhaps you can finish your scene and then export it as a movie and then put the subtitles on that.

You can also try changing the timeline to "Unlimited RT". That's how I edit, works fine even though some effects and transitions will play choppy before a final render or export.

I had to subtitle a piece recently after the edit was mostly complete and I used a shortcut by rendering out a movie of the edit and then put the titles on over the movie. This worked better on my system than just placing the sequence on the subtitled sequence as my machine did not like to render that properly. At the end I went back to a duplicate of original sequence and put all the subtitles on the duplicate sequence on a clean track so it was a relatively easy cut and past and render so I didn't lose a generation.
