Workflow using HDV?

I'm considering invetsing in a Sony FX1 camcorder, but am still a little confused about the workflow once making the jump to HDV. My understanding is that although I can edit in Final Cut Pro HD and copy the finished product back to a miniDV tape, there's no way at this time to conveniently burn an HD-DVD -- and, besides, isn't the standard still up in the air?

I'd like to know how folks here are dealing with this. Do you provide clients with a standard DVD created in FCP and assure them that the HDV version is safely copied to miniDV tape and can be burned to HD-DVD at some future point?

Well, for one, FCP HD (4.5) doesn't work with HDV footage. You would need to get lumiereHD which converts the footage into an editable, although non-native...format. To edit HDV natively you need to get FCP 5.

And as for burning DVDs, yes, until the standard is settled on you will have to burn SD DVDs...NO ONE has an HD DVD player, and if this war gets ugly, there will be too many people with one or the other, so no standard.

I don't use HDV, this is what I gleened from lots of research. I use DVCPRO HD...much better format and easier (by far) to work with.
