Compressor cutting .m2v short
Have a question -
I am exporting clips for a DVD - first step is exporting a .mov (ProRes 422) out of Final Cut 7 - file is about 16-20gb/11 minutes (can't remember specifics). That goes fine... However when I drag my video and sound settings on the clip in compressor, it exports fine, but it cuts the .m2v about 30 seconds short for every clip I try to export.... Is this something in FCP when I export the .mov even though that file is fine? Or do you think it is a compressor setting?? Any help would be appreciated...thanks! MT |
Re: Compressor cutting .m2v short
Check your in and out points in the FCP sequence.

Re: Compressor cutting .m2v short
There are no in and/or out points on the original FCP sequence. I just checked on all of them... I don't think the .mov would have anything?? It looked great all the way to the end...
Any other thoughts... |
Re: Compressor cutting .m2v short
I experienced this not with m2v files but bread and butter mp4. I realized it had been weeks since I had restarted my computer. Doing so did the trick and Compressor generated the proper length file with the very same input files it was goofing up before. YMMV

Re: Compressor cutting .m2v short
Computer has been off and on quite a bit and I just retried...
Maybe I'll start from scratch, but there is no setting in compressor that is cutting it off?? |
Re: Compressor cutting .m2v short
No, there isn't a setting although you can select in and out points in Compressor. Are you using the presets or are you creating a custom setting? Also try another file format in Compressor and see if that cuts off as well.

I'll look at the in/out points in compressor... Thanks.. MT |
Re: Compressor cutting .m2v short
I looked at the in/out in compressor and it says it is 14 minutes long but still cuts it out at 13:30 for some reason...
The preset we use is the DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes ->MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass We changed a few things in the settings but that shouldn't have anything to do with the cutting off?? Can't find the answer anywhere on the web for some reason.... Thanks for the help everyone...much appreciated. MT |
Re: Compressor cutting .m2v short
Just ran it in the original settings and it made it a 20 minute video with black behind the video for about 6 minutes...but at least it didn't cut it off??
Any thoughts? |
Re: Compressor cutting .m2v short
Possibly something is wrong with the master file. Are you using a self-contained QuickTime file or a reference file?

***Problem solved...
Man, I feel stupid. Was talking to our main-editor (whom I was trying to help), and he mentioned viewing them in mpeg streamclip...or in DVD studio pro. So, without thinking that QuickTime probably didn't read the .m2v right, I just double clicked on the file and QT opened the file. Needless to say, when I dragged it into DVD Studio or even VLC, it played until the end just like it was supposed to. I know it's after the fact and I'm definitely not going to waste anymore time trying to figure this out, but I wonder why QT had trouble playing a .m2v? Anyway, I hope my problem getting solved helped someone else in the process.... Sorry for wasting time for those that were trying to help... Cheers... MT |
