Best Workflow for FCP5+STP?
 

My university recently upgraded the student editing stations to Final Cut Studio 5. As part of that transition, my film professor decided that, rather than doing audio post in ProTools, all students would now learn Soundtrack Pro. Now, I have nothing against Soundtrack Pro, but its' fabled integration with FCP5 just is not working for me. I've read the FinalCut Suite workflows manual section for STP, and skimmed the STP manual, and I can't find solutions to my problems.

First of all, my workflow in FCP4 was always something along the lines of

1- Capture DV tapes in their entirety.
2- DV start-stop detection to establish rough clips
3- Name markers something useful, and adjust, then make subclips
5- Export individual subclips to ProTools if needed, make changes, re-import.

It seems like STP gets distraught over subclips. When I select a subclip and open it as a STP audio project, it imports the audio for the entire tape, and if I try to edit multiple clips from the same tape, it gets stupid and frustrating..

Would using the media manager to convert my subclips to seperate files on disk stop some of these woes?

I know this is a bit of a n00b question, but I've read the manuals in question and they aren't really helping me figure out how to feed STP files that it is happy to work on and return in updated form to FCP in a timely manner..

Yeah i think you answered your own question, just convert your sublcips into regular clips. Yeah i used STP on one occasion to adjust the sound of a clip it worked out really well, whatever changes i made in STP would change in FCP once i saved( no re importing needed)
