Hi ,back to mini tape

hi
how can I record the edited footage back to mini tape in final cut.

I tried to do that by going in ti edit to tape menu, but i couldn't.

thank you

I believe you should be using "Print to Video" not edit to tape in FCP.

Make sure your camera is on and connected BEFORE you launch FCP, so that it intializes the connection to your camera properly.

Sometimes Print to Video is problematic. You can also just start your video recorder and play from the timeline. For best results, make sure you've rendered all and have done an audio mixdown.

to camcorder

I want to rcord it back to mini dv tape on camera throught the fire wire!

How can I do that

Vic Owen October 19th, 2005 01:11 PM

Just set-up your camera in the VCR mode. Press the Record button and start playing from the timeline of your sequence. As previously mentioned, Print to Video also will work but is not necessary. Just make sure everything is rendered/mixed-down.

Unless the camera doesn't have that feature. If not your going to have to get a hold of a deck or another camera. Good Luck...

#8 External Monitor Viewing.

Shane's Stock Answer #8:

A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv

Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.

Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video

Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV

If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:

1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.

2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.

3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.

4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.

5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices

6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed

If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

Vic is right, playback can be problematic even on the fastest PowerMacs. For example, I have a dual 2.5 with FCP 4.5 and was getting random pauses with either print to video or direct timeline playback. Finally I narrowed this down to my hard drive formatting. Make sure your media drives are formatted WITHOUT JOURNALING under MAC OS 10.3 and up. This seems to slow things down just enough to cause glitches.

Boyd, what does someone do to check on this. sorry, new to the Mac. I have Mac OS Tiger.

Jay, check the Disk Utility Application, if your drive has jounaling enabled then you'll have to reformat it. You want your system drive to have journaling turned on. Check out http://larryjordan.biz/articles/lj_journaling.html for more info.

Jay Voog October 20th, 2005 05:14 PM

Nate,
So I want journalling ON for my system drive, but OFF for my media external drive.
Is this correct?

Nate Schmidt October 20th, 2005 08:32 PM

That's correct
