HDV editing heaven: I bought the Quad!

Well, I finally bought the Quad and I'm in HDV editing heaven! Now I'm just waiting for Black Magic Design to introduce the new DeckLink HD card to see my HDV playback from the timeline and maybe some future uncompressed HD editing.

That's cool Heath. How much faster is it (roughly)? Maybe you can think of something that you had to render on your dual that you are now rendering on your quad and let us know how much less time it takes?

I didn't have a dual, just a single processor 1.6 ghz G5 Power Mac. And to make a web-type QuickTime of a 2 minute sequence would take around 10 minutes on my old system (affectionately known as Molasses), and it took around 45 seconds on this system. This is from DV, by the way.

Rendering scrolling titles, about 30 seconds of them, took under a minute; on the old system, it would take 15-20 minutes, if not longer.

so basically, you are loving it :)

Oh yeah, but read this. You'll still love your dualie 2.7 ghz. But I wonder why they didn't do more Apple apps tests that take full advantage of the PowerPC G5s, like Final Cut Pro 5.

Rendering from what to what? (e.g. HDV to MPEG2?)

Thanks Heath. Good article. I'd still love to have one, but now I don't feel quite as left out after looking at the chart in that article. That render time smoked the dual 2.7, and I love to see the constant progression of speed and efficiency on these Macs. I've been very pleased with Apple over the past 7 or 8 years since I began using them.

Rendering the titles that were on my project, DV. I didn't do any other compression. On Monday, after an HDV short we're doing this weekend, I will be capturing and testing some stuff.
