Complete HDV setup options ?

Iīm picking up a Canon XL-H1 next week and wonder if any of you could help me suggest the rest of my setup. At the moment I do SD in Final Cut, Decklink Extreme SD, watching a 15" SD monitor.

I am thinking about upgrading Decklink to HD and perhaps a HD LCD TV as display. Is this a good route? What display size would be better?

I plan to record HDV then -for the moment- downrez to SD and edit in pro50 gaining 4:2:2 colors and finally output SD DVDīs. When the time is right I will re-batch for HDVD. Any suggestions for workflow appreciated.

Thank you all for this great forum. And a Merry Christmas to everyone.

Your best workflow is to get the Decklink HD, capture as uncompressed, and edit that, vs editing HDV, but there is certainly nothing wrong with editing HDV in the AIC or other intermediary codec.

As far as an LCD, be sure you get something that is built for motion, not graphics. Be sure it's got correct gamma, and can be correctly calibrated.
My personal choice was the Sony Luma series with the MEU on it, but there are other options. The Luma's are built for broadcasters, and are 1900 x 1200.
I love my Decklink Multibridge. It's a great setup, works with FCP no sweat.
As far as output, there isn't much to know. Simply edit in HD, and then convert that to SD for delivery. Nothing to recapture, because you edited in HD all along.

Thanks. Back from Christmas Holliday and the happy owner of a Canon XL-h1. Iīm sure the Sony Luma are great, but with a prize tag a little over the top for my budget at the moment. Any suggestions among less exp. LCDīs ?
I mean, is the apple 23" completly out of the question? And what about plasmaTVīs or bigger LCDīs ? I do mostly documentary, theater and some dramatic stuff for DVD. When shooting for broadcast the end product usually goes through color corr. (in DaVinci or Final Touch) in broadcasters studio. I have a good Sony 800lines monitor for editing SD so an HD display would be mostly for my own pleasure I guess.

Iīd be very interested in different views of the matter.

Happy New Year from the vinterland of Norway.
