Shuttle Pro
 

I have seen these in magazines but have never had the chance to try one out. If you are using one of these devices with Final Cut Pro, tell me what you think of it. Is it easy to learn how to use it? Does it improve the editing process? Many thanks.

I bought one when they first came out. The driver for it assigns buttons for FCP, I just use the default settings and I love it. I think it is a real help because when I am cutting I can leave my hand in one place and have all my controls right there. Super NICE.
I love it! Highly recomend it to everyone.

By the way, you can use it with tons of programs besides FCP.

I'll second that. I use it about 50% of the time. makes editing easier and faster. I've had mine about a year and a half, well built and zero problems.

I use one with Vegas Video. It's like having an old time scrubber...I love it. BTW, I did spill coffee on it one day...early in the morning while I was having trouble waking up. Other than a few sticky keys, it continues to work.

I use it with FCP, and it´s a great device. I really recomend you buying one because I know you will love it too.

You should be able to find it for under a hundred (US$) and it's worth every penny.

I can't edit without one.

Has anyone here used the Contour "spaceshuttle"? It looks like the same type of device except with five programmable buttons vs. thirteen on the "shuttle pro".

I have both the ShuttlePro and the SpaceShuttle. Both work exceptionally well. The SpaceShuttle was designed for people who need an even smaller form factor and a lower pricepoint. Your call.

I use a shuttle quite often in FCP. I also recommend using a two button scroll mouse instead of the single-click Apple mouse. Makes it very easy to access contextual menus, etc. and frees up your other hand a great deal.

I've been putting off buying the Shuttle Pro for ages, call me cheap. But at last weeks VideoForum in London I could resist no more, there was a show special price after all. Boy, do I like it. Reminds me of my college days editing on SVHS. They should make a special edition in the style of a Steenbecks controller ;-)

Talking of scroll wheel mice… You know you can use one as a really simple jog dial in QuickTime. If you bring up the Movie properties (control -J) and display the Video Track & Timecode from the pop-up list you can see a full timecode reading. Not much use, but I thought worth pointing out.
